After the certificate

Career pathways

Fifteen real directions graduates have taken with what they learned here — and how AI factors into each one.

These are directions, not promises. What you build from here depends on your effort, your market, and how far you want to take it — but every path below is grounded in skills taught in the certificate.

Group 1 · 2 paths

Teach & advise

For graduates who enjoy explaining AI as much as using it.

The AI Workshop Facilitator

Many small businesses and organizations know AI matters but don't know where to start. A graduate who takes this path becomes the person local chambers of commerce, professional associations, and school districts call on to demystify it — running lunch-and-learns and half-day trainings that turn "AI is confusing" into "here's exactly how our team could use this."

How AI factors in

Draws on the full breadth of the certificate — Intro to Generative & Agentic AI for the concepts, AI Prompt Engineering for the live demonstrations — packaged into a teachable, repeatable session rather than a technical build.

The AI Educator

Some graduates realize partway through the certificate that they enjoy explaining this material as much as using it. A graduate on this path turns that into a local workshop series or an ongoing community, teaching others what they just learned.

How AI factors in

Draws on everything in the certificate, repackaged for teaching rather than doing — using AI to help build course materials and explain concepts clearly to a group.

Group 2 · 7 paths

Build & automate for clients

For graduates who want to solve specific, well-understood problems for real businesses.

The AI Voice Agent Builder

Plenty of local businesses — dental offices, salons, contractors — lose customers simply because nobody answers the phone after hours. A graduate who takes this path learns to set up an AI agent that picks up those calls, texts back missed callers, and books appointments automatically.

How AI factors in

Draws directly on AI Automation with n8n and AI Prompt Engineering — designing a conversation flow the agent follows, connecting it to a booking calendar, and writing prompts that keep it sounding natural.

The Custom AI Assistant Builder

Every business has an internal FAQ nobody wants to answer for the hundredth time — how to file an expense report, what the return policy is, how a specific client likes things done. A graduate on this path builds a private, branded AI assistant trained on a company's own documents and voice.

How AI factors in

Combines AI Prompt Engineering with AI Powered App Development with Perplexity — writing the assistant's instructions, feeding it the right source material, and wrapping it in a simple interface a non-technical team can use.

The Business Process Automator

Every business has some repetitive task eating up hours every week — following up on leads, requesting reviews, re-engaging customers who haven't been back in months. A graduate on this path identifies one specific bottleneck and builds the automation that fixes it.

How AI factors in

The core application of AI Automation with n8n — designing a workflow that connects the tools a business already uses, and letting AI handle judgment calls like drafting a follow-up message.

The Rapid App Builder

Not every business problem needs software built the old way — sometimes what's needed is a simple quote calculator, an intake form, or a small booking tool, built fast. A graduate on this path builds exactly that kind of focused tool for a business that could never justify hiring a traditional developer.

How AI factors in

Straight out of AI Powered App Development with Perplexity and Web Development with Google AI Studio — describing what the tool needs to do in plain language and letting AI generate the working app, with a security review built in.

The AI-Enabled Virtual Assistant

Solo consultants, contractors, and agents rarely have staff to handle the admin side of running a business — the emails, the scheduling, the invoice follow-ups. A graduate on this path becomes the person, backed by AI, who quietly keeps that admin running smoothly for several clients at once.

How AI factors in

Built on AI Automation with n8n and AI Prompt Engineering — automation handles triage and scheduling while AI drafts the actual messages, so the graduate reviews and directs rather than typing everything by hand.

The AI Bookkeeping Specialist

Bookkeeping is full of repetitive categorization work that eats up a small accounting practice's time. A graduate on this path partners with a solo CPA or bookkeeper to automate the predictable part of that work, freeing the practitioner to focus on the judgment calls that need a human.

How AI factors in

Applies AI Automation with n8n in a compliance-sensitive setting — building workflows that categorize transactions and flag exceptions for review, always with a human making the final call.

The Customer Support Automation Specialist

Small e-commerce brands often drown in repetitive support tickets — where's my order, how do I return this, what's your sizing. A graduate on this path builds AI systems that resolve these automatically, routing only the exceptions to a human.

How AI factors in

Combines Intro to Generative & Agentic AI with AI Automation with n8n — designing a system that can read and resolve a support ticket correctly, with clear guardrails for when to hand off.

Research & create

For graduates who want to produce something — a report, a publication, a resource — rather than run a service.

The AI Research Analyst

Small consultancies, nonprofits, and boards regularly need research — competitor landscapes, market summaries, briefing packs — but don't have a research team to produce it. A graduate on this path turns a pile of sources into a clear, organized report far faster than manual research would allow.

How AI factors in

Builds on the NotebookLM coursework — feeding it sources, having it identify themes and contradictions, and shaping the output into something a client could hand straight to a decision-maker.

The AI-Assisted Publisher

A well-run niche newsletter takes real research and consistent writing — two things AI can meaningfully accelerate. A graduate on this path either builds their own newsletter around a topic they care about, or produces one for a local business or association that wants to stay in front of its members.

How AI factors in

Pulls together Google NotebookLM for research synthesis and AI Prompt Engineering for drafting — turning source material into a polished issue in a fraction of the usual time.

Pairs well with client-facing paths

The Template Creator

Some graduates enjoy building general-purpose tools more than working with individual clients. A graduate on this path packages a set of ready-to-use automation workflows as downloadable resources — less an outcome on its own, and more a way to demonstrate expertise and attract clients for paths like the Business Process Automator above.

How AI factors in

Uses the same AI Automation with n8n skills as the automation-focused paths, just packaged for a broader audience instead of one client's specific need.

Group 4 · 3 paths

Build something of your own

Longer, less certain roads for graduates ready to own something instead of serving clients — usually best attempted after some experience from the paths above.

The Product Builder

Rather than building for clients, some graduates want to build and own something themselves — a small app serving a specific audience. It's a longer, less certain road than the client-facing paths above, best approached after a graduate already has some experience and confidence from other work.

How AI factors in

Draws on AI Powered App Development with Perplexity and Web Development with Google AI Studio to go from an idea to a working product quickly, with a basic security review before it ever handles real customer data.

Works best behind a real service

The AI Platform Partner

Rather than building automation from scratch, a graduate on this path licenses an existing chatbot or voice-agent platform and offers it to small businesses under their own brand — most useful as a delivery method behind a real service, rather than as a stand-alone offering.

How AI factors in

Complements skills from AI Automation with n8n and AI Powered App Development with Perplexity — the graduate still configures, customizes, and supports the tool for each client, even though the underlying platform is licensed.

The Vertical AI Specialist

Instead of offering AI services broadly, a graduate on this path goes deep on a single industry — dental practices, real estate, legal offices — combining a few of the paths above into one focused offering that speaks directly to that industry's needs.

How AI factors in

Combines AI Automation with n8n, AI Prompt Engineering, and Intro to Generative & Agentic AI — the technical skills don't change, but the approach is pre-adapted to one industry's particular pain points.
